A key organizer of the "Freedom Convoy" protest, Tamara Lich has avoided jail time and will now stay out on bail while she awaits her trial. Judge Kevin Phillips found in her favor and said she has been a good bail bond surety. During her first trip to jail, Lich already showed she can be trusted to obey her release conditions. According to the judge, Tamara Lich did not breach the bail conditions by accepting the award.
The Canadian anti-hate network has flagged Lich's association with the "Yellow Vest" movement and the anti-Muslim Clarion Project. She also spoke to journalists Thursday about her political beliefs and her support for the protest. The freedom movement is made up of ordinary citizens who are fed up with government bullying. The movement is the cause of the yellow vest protests. The Canadian Anti-Hate Network has called for Lich to resign from her position.
The federal government is worried about Lich's rights and the possibility that she will receive a Charter freedom award. It's also worried about Lich's lawyer, Karimjee. According to Phillips, the lawyer of the federal government was rude to the judge. Nevertheless, he said that she is still presumed innocent. It's difficult to determine whether she will be convicted of the charges.
Among other awards, Lich's efforts have been recognized. The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms notified Lich of her 2022 George Jonas Freedom Award, which is given to people who have fought for freedom. The award ceremony was accompanied by a keynote address from Rex Murphy, a former national radio host. Lich's story has become a part of history. If she continues to fight for her rights, she could end up in jail.
The Crown prosecutor, Moiz Karimjee, argued that Lich had violated her bail conditions by accepting an award at a protest in Ottawa. Another Crown prosecutor, Lawrence Greenspon, argued that Lich's lenient bail conditions should allow her to go back on social media and visit her family. But Lich can only visit Ottawa if she has to attend court. She is prohibited from using social media until her case is resolved.
