Lightyear Films in Cinemas June 2022, Action-packed Sci-Fi Adventure

The Lightyear movie trailer reveals the latest details on the action-packed sci-fi adventure. This latest film from Disney and Pixar presents the story behind the character Buzz Lightyear, a figure who inspires toys.

Lightyear will follow the story of the legendary Space Ranger when he is stranded on a planet 4.2 million light years from Earth with his team. As Buzz tries to find his way back across time and space, he is joined by a group of ambitious coworkers and his robotic pet cat, Sox.

Trouble is growing and making the mission even more dangerous with the arrival of Zurg and his troops who have a mysterious agenda. New posters and images from the film are also available.

Set art director Greg Peltz explained the idea was to draw on and preserve existing works, but he also wanted to create a clearer look for the film. “We were so inspired by technology and our childhood films in the 70s and 80s,” Peltz told Variety, quoted on Saturday, April 23, 2022. He cites 2001: A Space Odyssey and Interstellar as inspiration.

The production team even went to NASA space research to perfect the Lightyear film. "We saw the Vehicle Assembly Building at NASA, the huge structure where they built giant space rockets," he said.

Director Angus Maclane admits that he is always interested in knowing more about the world of Buzz. “In Toy Story, it seems like there's an incredible story about his background as a Space Ranger that hasn't been revealed yet, and I've always wanted to explore that world further. So the idea I offered about Lightyear was, 'What movie did Andy see that made him want a Buzz Lightyear toy?' I wanted to see that movie. Now I'm lucky enough to be able to make it for the audience," said Angus Maclane.

The film features Chris Evans as the voice of the Space Ranger, Buzz Lightyear, with Uzo Aduba as his co-worker and best friend Alisha Hawthrone and Peter Sohn as the Sox. Keke Palmer, Taika Waititi and Dale Soules also voice the Junior Zap Patrol characters Izzy Hawthorne, Mo Morrison and Darby Steel. The audience can also hear the voice of James Brolin who will become Zurg.

“The voice actors for Lightyear are a dream team. Each voice actor immediately animates their character, and gives us the opportunity to explore during the recording sessions," said Angus Maclane.

In addition, Mary McDonald-Lewis also joins the Lightyear film as I.V.A.N., Isiah Whitlock Jr. as Commander Burnside, Efren Ramirez as Airman Diaz, and Keira Hairston as young Izzy.
