A stroller makes moving around with an infant or toddler easier. A stroll in the park, a visit to the mall, or sightseeing becomes simple if you have a stroller. Nowadays, strollers come in various shapes, sizes, and budgets. Before buying a stroller, keep your requirements and budget in mind and choose accordingly.

Types of Strollers

There are primarily six types of strollers available in the market.

Full-sized or standard strollers

These are big, durable and come with features such as a seat recliner and sunshade.

Umbrella or light-weight strollers

As the name suggests, they are light, portable, and travel-friendly. These are suitable for babies above six months of age.

Jogging strollers

These are sturdy, durable, and large. They are suitable for bumpy roads. These strollers are usually heavy and difficult to assemble.

Double strollers

These are specifically designed for twins. The seats are either one in front of the other or side by side.

Car seat carrier

These have a basic frame to contain the car seat. These strollers are cheaper and easier to assemble compared to others. They are also lightweight.

Travel system

Again a combination of a car seat and a stroller, they are full size, lightweight and sturdy.

Things to Consider Before Buying a Stroller

Now that you know about different types of strollers, it will be easier for you to choose the one that meets your needs. For a more informed decision, consider these factors as well.

How long do you want to use the stroller?

Some parents prefer using the stroller only during infancy, while others seek something suitable for toddlers and older babies. Also, consider if you wish to use the same stroller for your next child.

How frequently do you travel?

If you travel frequently, then you should select a travel system stroller or an umbrella stroller as they are easy to assemble, portable, and lightweight. You can carry them wherever you want and use them after easily assembling them.

Is the fabric washable?

Babies are messy. Therefore, always buy a stroller that is made of washable fabric. You wouldn’t want to compromise on hygiene while buying a stroller.

Can the stroller be folded with one hand?

If you intend to carry your child everywhere on a stroller then you should go for a stroller that can be folded with one hand. You can balance the baby in one arm and fold the stroller with your other hand.

Is there a sun canopy?

A sunshade is a must if you live in a tropical climate like in India. Strollers can have both half and full canopies. A full canopy can protect your infant from mosquitoes if you take them out after sunset. A shade also helps the baby to fall asleep during the ride. A shade can also be helpful during rain or snow.

Is there a stroller basket?

Babies need lots of things even for a short trip. Always go for a stroller that has a small storage basket where you can keep milk, water, wet wipes, pacifiers, a few toys, and snacks. It saves you from carrying a separate bag.
