Ouch! Viral 'Charlie Bit My Finger' video to be deleted from YouTube

In the early days of YouTube, one video became insanely popular after a toddler said, “Charlie bit my finger.”

The now-iconic video has been viewed more than 882 million times, the most-viewed viral video ever. But viewers will have to say goodbye after the Davies-Carr Family announced it would be deleted from YouTube on May 23.

On the 14th anniversary of the video, the family will auction the rights in its new NFT form. NFTs are a non-fungible token that have become increasingly popular.

“Now, the iconic video will be removed from YouTube and one person will have the opportunity to own it in its new form as a 1/1 NFT, memorializing them in internet history forever,” a statement on the website charliebitme.com said. “The NFT winner will also get the opportunity to create their own parody of the video featuring the original stars, Harry and Charlie.”

The video went viral after Harry, aged 3 at the time, put his finger in the mouth of Charlie, aged 1 at the time.

The brothers, now 17 and 15, are embarking on a new chapter in life and see the auctioning of the video as a new opportunity.

“Charlie Bit My Finger has been a huge part of the Davies-Carr family's lives for the past 14 years, and they are excited to welcome others to become a part of their story,” the statement read. “This is not the end of the beloved video, but rather a new beginning.”

The auction for the NFT begins at 10 a.m. ET on Saturday.
