If the book has begun to come apart and there isplenty of glue left in the spine you can simply place the soft coverbook into your thermal binding machine and re-heat it. When the gluefrom the spine is adequately heated it will become soft and re-adherethe book block to the cover. After the book is heated and the glue issoftened simply drop your bound book onto the counter to ensure thatthe book block is settled securely in the glue and let the book cool. 

However,sometimes there is not enough glue remaining on the book block tosecure it to the cover of the book. To rebind a book in this situation,it is necessary to use a thermal binding glue strip. These glue stripscome in 1 inch widths and twelve inch lengths and can be easily cutwith a pair of scissors to fit inside the detached spine of your book.After cutting the glue strip to the correct width and length andinserting it into your cover, simply reinsert the book block and dropthe book into screw barrel design your thermal binding machine. The thermal binding machinewill melt the glue and adhere the book block to the cover. Just dropthe heated book onto the counter and let it cool on the cooling rack ofyour thermal binding machine. 

Although this procedure will work with almost any thermal bindingmachine, it is recommended to use the Coverbind 5000 which can bindbooks up to 2" thick. Most other thermal binding machines such as theGBC T100 or the BindIt Perfect Bind II will only bind books up to 1"thick and many trade paper backs are thicker than this. Use the rotary comb opener to spread the comb apart and then begin threading the teeth through your document. It's helpful to put the front cover down first so that the comb's opening will be at the back of your document. This will make it look more professional.

 As you can see, using the GBC CombBind C55 is pretty easy. Just punch, bind, remove your document from the machine, and empty the chip tray. The main thing to remember about this device is that it can only punch up to 5 sheets at a time. Therefore, you should give yourself a decent amount of time to finish your work if your documents contain many pages.
