The Vessel of Hatred expansion for Diablo 4 brings with it an abundance of fresh content, such as an innovative endgame dungeon, the Spiritborn class and the return of mercenaries - not forgetting Runewords which allow players to unlock powerful abilities like Sorcerer teleportation or Barbarian war cries, among others.
Elixirs
Citing past Diablo games may not be groundbreaking easter eggs, but it's still nice. Someone on the Diablo subreddit discovered that new body armor for Hellumfal barbarians actually refers back to Lionheart rune words--which unlocked three-socket options in D2's body armor - in its design.
Though the idea behind runewords was intriguing, their implementation proved far less so. In D2, runewords required extensive offerings and provided only specific effects which may or may not be useful depending on a build.
PoE monsters are more powerful and require additional offerings, yet still encourage hoarding rather than spending them wisely. We hope Blizzard will adjust this system next time around to prevent hoarding from taking place.
Runewords
Runewords are a new breed of unique item created from combining specific sets of runes in an order that adds special affixes to a base weapon and add a powerful game-changing edge that few other rare or legendary diablo 4 items can match.
Some diablo 4 runes generate offering, like Ritual Xol, while others spend it to induce effects like summoning spirit wolves or increasing critical chance. More powerful runes require higher levels of invocation and thus require additional offerings and will take more effort to trigger.
Runewords, a classic feature from Diablo series games, allow players to connect ancient runes into equipment to summon wicked powers such as Sorcerer teleportation, Barbarian war cries and Nercromancer hexes. When activated, runewords generate offering when activated; ritual runes typically offer greater power but require more offering to trigger; invocations spend offerings more easily while offering less powerful capabilities but are easier for initiators.
Some diablo 4 runewords are class-specific, such as Leaf for Sorceresses or Grief for Paladin shields; these unique runewords may provide benefits that no other rare or legendary diablo 4 rune can. Other runewords like Infinity can be added to mace, sword or axe versions (Exceptional and Elite versions included); however a runeword tailored specifically for mace will not work when applied to other weapons like hammers or bow/crossbows.
Leveling
Leveling up in Diablo 4 may seem like a tedious and time-consuming endeavor if your class doesn't offer many skill-based talents, but there are ways you can make it more fun and efficient. One effective strategy for doing so is participating in activities such as dungeons or raids with enemies to increase XP faster and reach level 100 faster.
The runeword system in Diablo 4 is an exciting new addition, allowing players to add special diablo 4 items called runewords into armor for added power-ups and skills. Runes can be obtained from various activities within Vessel of Hatred campaign such as Kurast Undercity quest, elite drops from strongholds or endgame activities and by completing other endgame activities generating Offering which is used to activate some runeword effects - some require difficult trigger conditions while others offer easier activation such as summoning spirit wolves or increasing critical chance.
