blow boats bad, then again all boats bad to those who just buy a a boat and I are a captain. (coastie not a fan of blow boats or any boat owner without training. seen it too often). if you insist take lots of navigation courses. gps is not the answer, really learn the rules of the road, really. I have been on gorgeous boats with idiot captains. spend some time with fishing boat captains, they generally know their shit, though they can be a pain. their boats are ugly and messy but for the most part they know their shit. (as a side note I miss the old eastern rigged boats, pretty rafts)
