Like I mentioned in my previous blog post, I am lucky enough to work at Altitude-sports.com and be able to test products (especially coats). I can honestly tell you that no one has to twist my arm when the opportunity presents itself!
This time, I went with what I love most in terms of personal style: black, urban, clean lines and quality; so naturally I decided to go with Nobis and Mackage, two Canadian brands. As for the jackets, I chose the Jillian Crosshatch by Nobis and the Eleanor by Mackage.
1- Jillian Crosshatch by Nobis
In truth, I usually go for straight-cut and oversized coats, but I find some cinched waist jackets to be quite elegant. Almost all the Nobis women jackets are cinched, but… (and it might just be me) I found the belt on the Jillian to be more decorative than practical as it did not really tighten the waist that much.
The Jillian provides a really big hood and some pit zips (for ventilation), which is a great added feature. Naturally, you will recognize a Nobis jacket by its signature fabric, snap closures and crest on the upper arm.
2- Eleanor by Mackage
I like the Nobis, but I admit having a major crush on the Mackage jacket and its leather-trimmed details. When trying the Eleanor, I felt instantly comfortable and ready for Quebec’s cold winter. It features two frontal zippers to really keep the cold out and a water repellent wool exterior. This surprised me as I did not expect wool to be water resistant!
I love the oversized hood and high collar. I also really appreciate that you can close the pockets with a zipper, which is super practical if you ask me. In any case, this is a perfect winter jacket.
To sum it all up, these two opponents are alike in many ways. They also have a similar style and price point.
So without further ado, I have the pleasure to announce the grand winner; or in any case, the one I find the most elegant, polished looking, simple and warm: the Eleanor by Mackage.
