Biodiversity: Plants exhibit an incredible diversity, ranging from tiny algae to towering trees. They have adapted to thrive in various environments, from deserts to rainforests, and they play a vital role in supporting biodiversity by providing habitats and food for countless other organisms.



Photosynthesis: Plants are unique in their ability to undergo photosynthesis, a process that converts sunlight into energy and produces oxygen as a byproduct. This fundamental process not only sustains the plant itself but also supports the entire food web by providing energy for other organisms.



Medicinal Plants: Many plants have been used for centuries in traditional medicine. Modern medicine also relies on plant-derived compounds for the development of pharmaceuticals. For example, the anti-malarial drug quinine comes from the bark of the cinchona tree, and aspirin is derived from willow bark.

Studying the life cycle and processes related to plant life in real-time is important and becomes much easier for students to understand.



Giant Sequoias and Bristlecone Pines: Plants hold records for longevity and size. Giant sequoias are among the largest living organisms, and bristlecone pines are some of the oldest trees, with individuals exceeding 5,000 years of age.



Invasive Species: While many plants contribute positively to ecosystems, some become invasive and can threaten biodiversity by outcompeting native species. Invasive plants can alter habitats and disrupt natural ecosystems.



Genetic Diversity and Plant Breeding: Plant breeding has played a significant role in agriculture. Selective breeding and genetic engineering have been used to develop crop varieties with desirable traits, enhancing food production and agricultural sustainability.

The institute has signed a few MoUs with government agencies to safeguard the environment.
