Player upgrades in Franchise Mode have shifted Madden 20 coins over to a scheme match system and player stats have been increased by ditching points into a play mode that will reward attribute bonuses randomly within that play style's forte. The machine isn't bad, but pointless if you don't manually do it for all of your players, since the CPU will never auto-upgrade any players based on strategy fit. Scouting and drafting players stays unchanged from last season and is still very underwhelming.

A number of this may be overcome by the addition of user-modifiable draft classes, which is a wonderful addition, but just like the rest of the mode, just half baked. Unlike virtually any sports game (as well as the Madden games from the PS2 era), commentators will never state the names of new draftees, simply referring to them as"the quarterback" or"the running back." Yet more, there is no create-a-team or create-a-stadium feature like was found in older Madden titles. Team relocation is again locked to the same cities and pre-made teams from the past few seasons.

The demonstration is really a mixed bag. The only rough spot is the depth of discipline technique used. It look really awful, especially on players at the foreground of a shooter. There are some new cartoons between plays that look really good and sometimes you get some excellent looking replays. The touted broadcast-quality demonstration is quite laughable compared to any competing sports match. Even the new halftime show that the in-game announcers repeatedly plug often never occurs or is not anything more than four cheap Mut 20 coins or five static shots of something that occurred throughout the first half.
