The news outlet said that the focus of the improvement works had been on the busiest stretch between the roundabout on Avenida Carlos I and CalleTerraza.

The grand idea behind the scheme is to create a link between Estepona’s old town – where so much economic and social activity is concentrated – and the seafront promenade and beach pursuits.
It is intended that the new space will constitute an area of transition between the two zones, providing quieter space open to pedestrians, who will be able to enjoy the natural surroundings.
The mayor of Estepona, José MaríaGarcíaUrbano, commented: “This pioneering initiative places Estepona at the forefront of sustainable towns which are committed to quality of life, the wellbeing of residents, the environment, and creating open spaces for pedestrians.”
SUR in English’s article on the development added that the redesign of the old area had led to a pedestrian boulevard being created surrounded by planters, encompassing a total area of 5,286 square metres.
The principal intention is for the walk to be used by pedestrians; however, the project also allows for a cycle lane and emergency-vehicle access.
The news outlet further explained that “special emphasis” had been placed on eliminating physical barriers, so that a more inclusive environment could be realised in the town.
