There are several ways to use the land that we live on. Sustainable land use design is referred to as permaculture. Based on biological and ecological principles, this system makes use of certain designs that minimize work and maximize the results. This is a self-sustaining agricultural method. This system is designed in such a way that they require minimum or at times hardly any human intervention. Today, this term is being used to describe a holistic approach to designing ecologically balanced and self-sufficient human settlements. Right from its origin, permaculture has developed into an international movement. This principle can be applied to any environment and at any scale, from farms to individual homes to dense urban settlements.

This system aspires to establish an ecological balance within the system. A perfectly balanced system does not require external modifications. For example, a very simple permaculture farm uses its animal waste to feed its crops, which in turn are used to feed the animals. At the same time, enough crops and animal products (such as meat, eggs, etc) are generated to feed the human community.

Permaculture design principles form the basis of this system:

* While planning for permaculture design, it is essential for students of permaculture to study, observe, and understand the natural components of the land before converting it into a farm. The natural and artificial boundaries which define this system need to be considered along with all natural resources which are available there.

* These parameters then gradually lead to long-term maintenance of the permaculture system, its implementation, and the permaculture design. This is a highly innovative and creative design process. This is actually the key to the success of the system.
