About This Game

Not dying today is a 2D side-scrolling action game. In 2030, the world has been taken over by zombies. With fire and blade, bullets and guns, you, captain Aiden, will do anything to protect the last human kind, anything, even turn into a zombie, using zombie power to kill zombies.

I can't recommend this game at full price. It's easy, it's uninspired, and it's boring.

One positive thing I will say is that some of the sprite art is pretty nice, when you beat up on the enemies enough, that is. Ribcages will be showing, eyes will be gouged out, limbs and jaws missing, etc. Accompanied with some satisfying squish sounds, that makes for some light amusement.

There's just no depth to this game at all, though. You mash one button until the bad guys die (or shoot them if you are impatient like me), and arrive at a boss where you do more of the same. There are a multitude of weapons to unlock, but all the guns do basically the same thing, and there's really only a few melee weapons that are actually viable.

There is also a leveling system that doesn't add anything to the game. In fact, it actually hurts the game because if you try to play the hardest difficulty immediately you will be underleveled and it will be impossible, but if you complete a run on a lower difficulty, you will be completely overpowered and it will be a cakewalk.

I bought this game for $0.99 and that's definitely what I would advise you to buy it at too. It's perfectly functional, but there are so many other titles out there that do what this one does, but better, and while also bringing something new to the table.. NDY is a cute 2-D style beat-em up, move to the right of the screen kinda game. Think Streets of Rage, just with a small budget, using the walking dead as inspiration and interesting NPC variants to slaughter or shoot, you must defeat waves of zombies and a scary boss who awaits you at the end of each level.

With more than bash A to win mechanics, you are given a mainhand melee to use like a machete, a sidearm ranged weapon like a AK-47 and up to two special items which can range from the humble hand grenade to the zombie confusing decoy. Even a pocket turret to a chicken strapped with TNT. Why not when the end of the world has already happened.

Boss rush modes are included, 3 Difficulty options and a story mode. Endless mode can be played with active leader rankings and I believe working co-op gameplay, But to be fair I did play the entire game alone. It is most likely more fun with friends, as all things tend to be. It supports steam achievements, 20 of em. It has trading cards and badges for that potential 600 profile XP, that is 2\/2. Lastly for the price, it isn't a bad nod. I give it a happy thumbs. It did well by me.
