WHAT IS A MEZZANINE FLOOR? 

Mezzanine flooring can be defined as a free-standing warehouse structure that is made from either steel, aluminium, fiberglass, concrete or even wood.  It acts as an intermediate between the floor and ceiling of a building. The purpose of a warehouse mezzanine floor is to cover a specific area of a building or warehouse rather than the entire floor space. 

FEATURES  

Mezzanine floors are generally constructed halfway up the wall on a floor that has a ceiling twice its height.  As it is not counted as a floor, it is not taken into consideration while deciding on the total floor space 

According to the international building code, a mezzanine floor should cover atleast one-third of the floor below it.  When there are more than two warehouse mezzanine floor in the building, the total floor space should not exceed one-third of the floor below. 

COMPONENTS OF A MEZZANINE FLOOR 

The different components of a mezzanine floor are 

PRIMARY BEAMS: They are the main support of the mezzanine which span across all the columns 

JOISTS: They span between the main beams and act as the fixing points for the deck. 

COLUMNS: They are designed to support the mezzanine and primary beams.  The load is distributed equally across all the columns. 

DECKING:38mm particle board is the most common option. Other mezzanine floor material options include robot-ready flooring, durbar plate and composite decking    

USES 

Mezzanine floors are versatile and can be tailored to meet the needs of most spaces That is why, they are widely used in modern architecture where more importance is given to light and space.
