Have a strong sense of your intended recipient’s style
If you are indeed interested in buying lingerie for a female romantic partner, you will hopefully have become attuned to her aesthetic in some way.
One of the reasons why lingerie isn’t always well-received as a gift, is because the lingerie chosen might represent a mismatch between how the buyer likes to see the recipient, and what the recipient perceives themselves as being.
A girlfriend who is very much a sporty “tomboy” type in their day-to-day attire, for example, might find a highly revealing two-piece set to be a bit vulgar. Or she could perceive it as an indication that her boyfriend has the wrong motivations for buying lingerie as a gift (or to put it another way: he has bought it as a gift for him, to fulfil his fantasies, rather than for her).
Similarly, if you’ve got some nude stockings in mind, it will be greatly helpful if this matches with the colours already present in her wardrobe and delicates drawer. If she pretty much only wears black, that’s probably the hue to go for with any lingerie you purchase for her.
Remember: “lingerie” isn’t just bras and knickers!
One potential route to buying your partner a “sexy” lingerie gift this Christmas, while minimising a lot of the risk, is going for an item that doesn’t show quite as much skin (and therefore, will be less likely to be perceived as purely a vehicle for your own bedroom fantasies).
