CBD oil is a product you’ll want to add to your list of pet wellness must-haves. If you’re shopping for items that can help your pet, you’ll need to do ample research to find the best options possible. Here’s what you need to know before you start shopping for CBD oil for dogs.
CBD Oil: Definition
CBD stands for cannabidiol. The compound naturally occurs in hemp and cannabis. However, CBD doesn’t contain any delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (TH), which is the compound responsible for the psychoactive properties of Marijuana, Dogs Naturally says.
Benefits of CBD
You can use CBD to treat a variety of conditions and problems.
● Anxiety. If your dog often suffers from anxiety attacks, then you can use this to manage the symptoms as well as lower stress and anxiety levels.
● Fights cancer. CBD oil comes with anti-tumor properties that enhance cancer treatment, helps your pet’s immune system to fight against cancer cells, and inhibits glioma cell growth.
● Manage Seizures. About 5 percent of dogs suffer from seizures. If your canine friend has seizure attacks, then using CBD can help your four-footed family member as CBD cuts down on the frequency of the seizures, the PetMD says.
● Pain relief. CBD also provides much-needed pain relief. If your dog is in recovery after surgery or has chronic pain, then give CBD products a try.
CBD in the System
CBD remains in your pet’s body long after the effects wear off. It takes about a week before CBD is gone from the system. However, there are several factors that affect that. Your dog’s body weight, diet, and activity level will all affect the length of time that CBD stays in the system. Also, your pooch’s biochemical makeup and the frequency with which CBD is taken will also affect the outcome. For instance, a single-use of CBD can remain in the system for about three days. With moderate use, though, it will take three to five days before CBD leaves the system for good. Repeated use means the CBD can stay in the system for up to ten days or more.
Absorption Speed
Once you work out the right dosage to give your pet, the effects should start about 30 minutes after consumption. The therapeutic effects should last anywhere from four to six hours. If you want to use CBD oil on your pet, keep that absorption speed in mind, so you can time the sessions right.
Daily Doses
CBD oil is safe for dogs. There are mild and rare side-effects, though, but that can be overcome by following the recommended dosage. Talk to your vet, though, before you start giving your pet any CBD oil, especially if your pet is already receiving treatment. If you start seeing negative reactions to the product, cut back on the dosage. If the dosage needs to change, though, do it gradually to give your pet’s system time to adjust. While it’s impossible to overdose on CBD, it wouldn’t hurt to monitor your pet after each dosage to check for any negative reactions.
