There are a lot of methods to treat pain, including over-the-counter medications, prescription medications, and non-pharmacological techniques. In this post, we'll cover the basics of each and provide a brief outline of the most effective approaches to Chronic Pain Treatment. We'll also talk about the differences and what each approach can offer. For more information, go to our articles on managing pain.
Treatment of pain with non-pharmacological techniques
There are many methods that are non-pharmacological to treat pain such as massage therapy, physical therapy and Acupuncture. There are also relaxation techniques and cold or heat to ease discomfort. While this may seem counterintuitive the use of cold or heat to ease muscle spasms can ease some of the symptoms. The American Academy of Family Physicians published FP Essentials which lists non-pharmacological pain relief options.
Prescription medicines
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) and other medications are commonly prescribed for pain control. They are not only more powerful than the generic alternatives, but are also used to manage chronic pain. Constant use of NSAIDs, however, could increase bleeding and bruising risks and cause fluid retention, which may cause damage to kidneys. Other common types of prescription medications for pain management include opioids and antidepressants, which are adjuvant analgesics which reduce certain types of pain.
OTC drugs
If you suffer from mild or moderate pain, prescription medications to treat medication management are a good alternative. The NSAIDs, like Acetaminophen block the production of prostaglandins, which contribute to the feeling of swelling and pain. These medications can trigger serious side negative effects even though they are very efficient. For instance, acetaminophen could cause stomach bleeding and should only be taken with a doctor's guidance.
Other treatments
A lot of people experience chronic pain that has no identifiable root and isn't relieving by conventional treatments. While invasive surgical procedures and possibly addictive medications have their place in managing pain however, they may not be the right option for all. Alternative treatments can provide long-term benefits. While each patient may experience different outcomes it is beneficial to treat chronic pain naturally. Inherent and holistic therapies can be especially beneficial to those with a variety of medical ailments.
Make a note of your pain management treatment plan
It is a great way to keep track of your pain management treatment progress and find patterns. Your diary should be kept at a constant time each day. You should include information about how much pain you're experiencing as well as the reason. Also, the type of treatment you've taken. This can be addressed by your doctor if you have any questions. The aim is to figure out a way that your pain management plan is effective for you.
