UFC Fight Night on ESPN: Blaydes vs. Volkov is set for this Saturday, June 20 from UFC APEX in Las Vegas. The main event features №3-ranked heavyweight contender Curtis Blaydes taking on №7-ranked Alexander Volkov. In the co-main event, Josh Emmett faces Shane Burgos in a battle of featherweight contenders.

Curtis Blaydes (13–2–0, 1NC) aims to stay among the top heavyweight contenders with another victory this weekend. Riding a three fight win streak, his last outing saw him defeat former champion Junior dos Santos via TKO early in round 2 in January, meaning he has now won 7 of his last 8 fights. “Razor” Blaydes has an 8–2–0, 1NC record in the UFC, 5 wins coming by TKO with 4 of those contests being finished before the midway point of round 2. His only two professional losses have come against Francis Ngannou, both by TKO.Against Volkov, he will be giving up three inches in height against his 6ft 7in opponent and, with a background in collegiate wrestling, I expect him to use punches to set up takedowns and attempt to utilise ground and pound. The Russian has a karate and kickboxing background so will try to stop any takedown attempts and keep the fight standing against Blaydes.Volkov’s last appearance in the UFC saw him defeat Greg Hardy by unanimous decision last November and increase his record in the organisation to 5–1, which includes a main event Performance of the Night (POTN) KO win against former champion Fabricio Werdum. His only loss in the UFC came via KO against Derrick Lewis, 11 seconds away from the end of a fight that Volkov was probably winning on the scorecards.“Drago” has recorded 14 of his 20 pro KO/TKO wins in the first round, and both men will look for a stoppage via the same method in this bout — Volkov on the feet, Blaydes on the ground. This fight will be very interesting if it goes to the later rounds, and Volkov will be confident that a win moves him into the top 5 heavyweight contenders and focusing on those at the top of the division.Prediction — Volkov by decision in a POTN
