Bungie has decided to create a fresh start within Destiny 2, and this is to make it more accessible to kinderguardians. The only thing that will be brought over from the first game is character customization, i.e. your guardian's facial features and a few extras for veteran players. We don the know what exactly these rewards will be but we we can assume that they will be so sort of cosmetics, like emblems and shaders.
But yes. Destiny 2 is meant to bring new players in, well as to keep old players in.
