Ascension: Gift of the Elements is the eleventh game in the Ascension series. This set sees the return of Events from Storm of Souls and Immortal Heroes; Events enter the game via the center deck and create an immediate impact for all players. However, unlike in previous sets, Events can now be acquired and transformed into powerful Hero cards.

This set introduces two new mechanisms: infest and empower. Infest allows you to mess with an opponent's deck, forcing them to draw useless cards. This gameplay feature can slow down a player that jumps out early and introduces a strategic element not seen in previous sets. Players can counter this infestation through Empower cards. When the player acquires an Empower card, they may banish a card played that turn (i.e., using the card, then eliminating it). This added flexibility creates a lasting impact in each game.

A bad Ascension expansion.

This expansion has a focus on the new Empower banishing mechanic, rewarding you for banishing, center banishing, banish, banish, banish. And it's not restricted to void or enlightened at all, it's just constant banishing across the board. I like the banishing mechanic and all, but this expansion sort of pollutes its usefulness and makes it a constant recurring process for everyone.

There are mechanics for putting monsters in your opponents discard piles, where they usually don't do anything if played. That's irritating.

Save your money, this one isn't worth it. There are a few better sets to play with.. The Event system is a mess, and letting users "resolve" Trial events to hire powerful heroes is just over the top, in my opinion.. Seems to me like they simply copied the advertising text from the physical copy.
