Occasionally, understanding steps to make a colored smoke blast can be tricky. Even though you believe you already know just how! You can still have problems getting your colored smoke to burn up brilliant and without sputtering even if you are an old seasoned at creating smoke bombs. Many individuals get their smoke products from suppliers which have been giving natural powdered coloring pre-mixed with another essential colored smoke compounds for years. These premixed colored smoke parts allow it to be faster and easier to produce smoke grenades and smoke bombs. Typically you can get a lb of the colored smoke mix, combine it with a pre-measured number of potassium chlorate (KClO3), load it right into a given pipe, insert the Visco fuse and voila! You've a homemade smoke blast, kardinal pod willing to light and enjoy. Usually. Sporadically I could have problems obtaining the colored smoke to light. When this issue turned repetitious, I made a decision to roll-up my sleeves and look into it. What I found was such a thing but world shattering, but an excellent lesson in simple pyrotechnic investigator work and it's a similar kind of problem examination and solution process which anyone who makes fireworks could eventually run into.
The objective of investing in a colored smoke blast sets is to produce it simple and rapidly to create a smoke bomb. But suppliers possibly have made it also simple, they may ignore the obvious. I was mixing the two-part colored smoke parts (smoke mix and KClO3) precisely, based on the instructions my dealer provided nevertheless when I tried to light the recently built smoke blast it wouldn't burn up or it would light and then sputter and fizz out.
Ultimately when you light the smoke grenade it's designed to smolder, maybe not find on fire. The key is having the proper rate of the potassium chlorate oxidizer to smoke mix fuel. Wrong sizes in one single way and your mix will burn up too quickly and you will not get the colored smoke you would like, as an alternative dark, brown, or several other unimpressive colored smoke. Err in the alternative way and your smoke mix will not ignite at all. Exact sizes are critical.
I took my problem to my dealer and they jumped proper in. They took samples from the group of smoke mix that my set had come from, determined by lot quantity, combined it precisely with the KClO3, and touched it off outside the office. They also, had some sort of a problem. Original thought was that possibly the laboratory which formulates their colored smoke combinations in large quantities, had changed the structure in some way. We called them up and they claimed nothing was different, but compounds can differ from group to group and if you don't do frustrating and high priced screening of every new group you may never know.
