This game is trying to be Contra, but I'd rather play Contra. The game seems to only run at one resolution (800 x 600) and only in windowed mode, no full screen. After all of that, I decided to play anyway, The control is alright, but the game play is rather slow. Then the game crashed on the first stage, so I gave up. Had this been on the NES 30 years ago, it could possibly be forgiven, but for a recent PC game, it is a waste of money.. It's small.. Nah, not really. Loading the game and only getting a black screen until I played with the settings for the third time wasn't a great start (try switching to 16-bit mode and toggling other things on or off until you can see things). Then the sound randomly stopped working and I had just about had enough. From there it is kind of ok, but hitboxes seem to be somewhat optional and the controls feel off, being floaty and unresponsive (even from the start you'll have to jump through hoops for the d-pad). Since this is pretty much what the game is about, there isn't a whole lot more to say about it. In terms of presentation, the graphics are nice for the style, at least once you get past the menu system which is a mess. The music is poor and doesn't fit the action and sounds effects, such as simple things like gunshots, don't seem to be implemented or are not working. Not the worst effort in the world, but it still seems to have a long way to go.. If you loved Contra, you'll tolerate 8-Bit Commando.. i love retro coop games and i loved this one. i wish it had more levels tho. and longer ones too.
