Everyone wants to look their best for their wedding day – and here at Sweet Gibraltar Weddings, we want to help you achieve your dream look ahead of your own nuptials in the British Overseas Territory. That’s why we’re proud to arrange beauty treatments on request for those getting married in Gibraltar with our help.
However, it’s also true that you need to be careful with the timing of certain more specialised beauty treatments in the run-up to your big day. So, what are six treatments you should be avoiding if you’re mere days or weeks away from your wedding?
• Any drastic change to your hair
You might, of course, fancy trying a new look with your hair for your Gibraltar wedding – and that’s great! But if you’re feeling especially ambitious in this regard, it’s also crucial to watch your timing.
A good rule of thumb is that if you do wish to make major changes to your hair before a wedding, you should try to do so as far in advance as possible. This means that if you end up disliking the result, you can just let it grow back to normal, and if you do like it, it’s simply a case of topping it back up closer to your wedding day.
• Tanning beds
Many people getting married in Gibraltar like to make sure they have a tan for the big day. While some people can tan naturally in the Gibraltarian sunshine, others prefer a tanning bed.
Using a tanning bed, however, is never a good idea. Tanning beds increase your risk of skin cancer and can encourage premature aging. If you really want to be tanned for the big day, opt for a professional spray tan at least two days before the wedding instead.
• Chemical peel
Chemical peels can do absolute wonders for your skin, leaving it looking and feeling refreshed and revitalised. However, before showing positive results, chemical peels can make the affected area go red and flaky for a while, as the chemicals peel off the top layer of skin.
Unless you want a red face on your wedding day, you should therefore only arrange a chemical peel if it is a year in advance of when you intend to tie the knot.
• Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is another intense facial treatment that you should never have done just before your wedding! That’s because with microdermabrasion, dead skin can shed from your face for weeks before it fully heals.
Instead, try an exfoliating mitt or a cleansing brush to leave your skin refreshed without the flaking.
• Microblading
Microblading should only be done at least three months before your wedding day. This is because it is essentially a temporary tattoo on your face. The ink usually lasts for around 12 to 18 months, with a top-up appointment after a month to make sure the colour and shape are correct.
After that, the healing process can take a while, so it’s always best to err on the side of caution when it comes to microblading.
• Botox or fillers (if you’re not a pro)
Unless you are a total pro and already get regular Botox or fillers, you should never leave it until a few months before your wedding to try them for the first time! Botox lasts up to five months, and fillers up to 18 months, so if you don’t like the results, it is very unlikely it will have worn off in time for your wedding day.
If you want to try Botox, we would urge you to do so at least six months prior, or two years prior for fillers, so that it’s just a case of a top-up nearer the time.
Here at Sweet Gibraltar Weddings, we’re skilled and experienced experts who guide those interested in getting married in Gibraltar through the entire process of organising their dream nuptials.
