The UK Government’s decision to put up Corporation Tax from 19% to 25%, taking effect from next April, will cause the country to fall 16 places on the global ‘league table’ for corporate tax, from sixth to 21st.
That is the finding of new research reported by Accountancy Today and shows the stark impact of the change that received Royal Assent in June 2021. Even after the increase, the UK is set to be more competitive than many comparable economies.

If you ever thought that one of the downsides of cryptocurrency is that you can’t exactly use it to buy a coffee during a rushed lunch break, it’s time to disabuse yourself of that notion. As reported by Cointelegraph, the major coffee chain, Costa Coffee, now accepts Bitcoin payments in Gibraltar.

What I’m about to say to you might seem to have little ostensibly to do with my acting classes in London, or even online. Nonetheless, whatever the nature of the coaching for which you join me, it is something that ought to be borne in mind.
And that message is as follows: think of the last few years we have gone through. Does it ever feel to you at times that we have had two years, perhaps two and a half, largely marooned in semi-permanent “fight or flight” mode?
To me, it…

It may feel to many of us as if the ‘acute’ phase of the COVID-19 pandemic is now over – but as with so many other aspects of life these days, the situation isn’t quite as simple as that. As recent news headlines have shown, the coronavirus has shown its ability to keep on surging, so there is a need for workers to stay vigilant and consider how they can best maximise their safety.
Then, there is the not-insignificant matter of the new ‘hybrid office’ era. This is a world of work…

Amid the overwhelming rush of events – both inside and outside of the fashion space – that has been 2022, even some of the keener catwalk-watchers could probably be forgiven for overlooking that this year has already seen what could turn out to be a very interesting ‘first’.
Yes, from Thursday 24th March, and continuing through to Sunday 27th March, we have seen the running of the inaugural Metaverse Fashion Week (MVFW) - an event that really can claim to be a fashion week with a…

Yes, we know; plenty of you will be more than a little tired of hearing about the cost-of-living crisis. However, you are probably much more tired of actually having to deal with it, and it seems that the situation will get even worse for households and businesses before it gets better.
On this backdrop, you may be looking to the winter ahead, and contemplating that this upcoming Christmas will be a very different proposition to recent Christmases.
Here, then, are some ideas…

At the time of this blog post being written, we were well into the summer – and therefore well into the typical British outdoor swimming season. And we know what you’re thinking; this is the very time of year when, as a pool owner, you are likely to suddenly realise you are short of certain key equipment or other essentials.
Having those items to hand will enable you to get even more enjoyment out of your pool this summer, and perhaps even beyond.
As pool equipment suppliers, we…

It’s one of those things that might have long been a dream of yours: building the home bar that would provide quite the backdrop to family and friend gatherings and parties, while meaning you never (at least theoretically) need to head out to the pub again.
But even if you wanted to spend all your free time in your home bar, the fact is, many of us are under serious financial pressures right now. Indeed, the situation may well be even more acute by the time you read this.
So,…

It’s no secret that Spain can be an exceedingly rewarding part of the world in which to live, for reasons ranging from its hot, dry Mediterranean summers to picturesque scenery and generous sporting and leisure amenities. So, it should hardly be any great surprise that so many people seek to rent property here, which presents plentiful opportunities for landlords, too.
You may be reading this as someone who has previously been a landlord in other countries, or you might have never…

A lot of foreign property buyers in Spain make use of mortgages, and they do so for a variety of reasons. In most cases, of course, it is to help afford the purchase, as it means that apart from the deposit and purchasing costs they can spread the cost out over time. In some cases the mortgage payments can be earned back through rental income, but even many who do not strictly need a loan to acquire a Spanish property use financing because it suits their purposes.
In other words, even…

With the summer in full swing, and COVID restrictions lifted, there’s never been a better time to have a house party.
Thanks to the introduction of government restrictions, and the cost of living increasing, people are turning inwards for their party fix, choosing to have parties at home.
Gone are the days of queueing at midnight, losing your friends in the club, and paying far too much for off brand liquor.
Say hello to dancing in your jeans, and making your drinks exactly…

A major subject of conversation in the UK in recent weeks has been the intense heatwave during mid-July that saw peak temperatures exceed 40 degrees C, or 104 degrees F.
Not all of the UK’s current transport infrastructure stood up well to the challenges posed by the elevated heat. But what factors seem to have made the UK’s roads particularly susceptible to the adverse effects of the heat, compared to countries in mainland Europe?
Matthew Lugg OBE, international highways expert…
