Google changed how it handles soft 404 detection and classifications, John Mueller, a Google Search Relations Advocate, confirmed this morning. The search company now looks at each page by device type and potentially can assign the soft 404 classifications differently across the same URL on mobile versus desktop.

Earlier this Spring, Microsoft Ads announced that video extensions were moving into beta. Now, they’re available to advertisers globally on desktop. The mobile format is available only in the US and will be rolling out to additional locations over time. A timeline for broader mobile rollout has not yet been announced.

As of late July, advertisers will no longer be able to create new broad match modifier (BMM) keywords with the +keyword notation, Google Ads announced Tuesday. Existing BMM keywords will keep serving under the updated phrase match behavior announced in February.

Beginning in August 2021, financial services marketers in the UK will need to be verified by Google in order to show advertisements to people seeking financial services online. Internal links are important for SEO as they send signals to Google about which pages are most important to a particular website. They don’t send the same ranking signals as external links, but they still matter.

The Google July 2021 core update is now rolling out, today July 1, 2021. This update will take about one to two weeks to fully roll out. Google said on the Search Liaison account “the July 2021 Core Update, previously announced, is now rolling out.” “These typically take 1-2 weeks to finish,” Google added.

What is new. The old page had general advice on the importance of using server-side 301 redirects when communicating to Google Search that a page has moved. It also linked to some guides on how to set up those redirects on Apache and NGINX servers. That was the bulk of it; for comparison, here’s a screenshot of the old page.
